Ballarat’s Interactive Wildlife Park
Fun is definitely on the menu at the Ballarat Wildlife Park. There
are not many places in the world where one would be able to have their
photographs taken with friendly koalas, participate in interactive shows
with snakes, koalas, wombats, alligators and the spotted tail quoll
feed.
In the reptile house, children of every age can learn about the
residents such as frogs, lizards, snakes, crocodiles and more than 400
other species of reptiles. How about watching as a mother koala feeds
her baby koalas in the Koala Nursery?
Of course, if you prefer to be a bit more hands on, the Park is offered
to schools as an Environmental Classroom, where children can learn about
the native animals, mammals, birds and reptiles, all the while linking
those learning experiences with their educational lessons. The Park is
set as the perfect learning opportunity and gives the students the
chance to read, observe, listen to the guides and staff, and have
hands-on experiences as well. What a wonderful way to teach the
youngsters about their native environment and how to respect the
critters in nature.
There is a Bushman’s hut that can be used as a workshop, with free
worksheets to school levels prep through the sixth grade. Actually there
are a number of events and activities that occur at this beautifully
recreated early 1840’s style bushman’s hut. It seats up to roughly 60
people and can be booked for multiple occasions such as parties, civic
meetings, weddings and other types of events. Of course, the facility is
extremely popular so if you want to rent it for your special event you
need to contact the Wildlife Park.
Other areas of interest include a spectacular picnic area, where
kangaroos and emus freely wander. Many people decide that in addition to
the picnic, they make wonderful use of the barbeque and playground
facilities as well.
A truly interactive and unique wildlife experience could not be
experienced anywhere else. While you are on your holiday or if you live
in the vicinity, check it out and have a thoroughly enjoyable day.
