With Four Distinct Seasons, Ballarat is Wonderful For Year Round
Visits
Approximately a ninety-minute drive northwest of Melbourne, Ballarat
is one of Australia’s largest inland cities. Known for its heritage and
rich history, Ballarat is about seventy-five square kilometres, is home
to a little more than 85,000 residents and is located 441 metres above
sea level.
Although there are four distinct seasons, snowfall is very uncommon in
the area during the winter months. June, July and August are colder than
the rest of the year with the daily temperatures ranging from 3.7°C for
the lows up to highs of 11.4°C. This is typically the time of year when
the most rainfall is recorded as well, ranging from 66.2mm through
75.0mm.
Springtime brings less rain, with roughly 55.0 to 72.2mm, and the
temperatures begin to rise, bringing with the warmer weather the
beautiful blooms that indicate spring has sprung. Temperatures range
from 4.8°C as the lows to 19.5°C for the highs.
As summer creeps in, December shows a marked increase in the low
temperatures rising from 9.4°C up to 22.5°C during the day. January and
February continue the trend as Ballarat’s climate reaches the highest
points in the season with 10.8 – 11.4°C in the evening to a steady
25.0°C in the hottest points of the day.
Fall is always a brilliant time of the year. As leaves start to change
colors and bring about the changes as only nature can do, the rain falls
range from little more than 9.5mm up to maybe 16.1mm and the
temperatures begin to drop just a bit signaling winters pending arrival.
March shows slight variations dropping to 9.9°C in the evenings and
22.2°C during the warmest parts of the day, while April and May go lower
a little less gradually. Lows going from 7.4°C to 5.7°C as the sun goes
down and day time temperatures steadily reduce from 17.6°C down to
13.6°C as winter rolls in.
Regardless of the time of year you decide to visit, there are plenty of
activities, places to visit, festivals, shows and entertaining events to
keep you busy. During the coldest months, the museums, art galleries and
incredible shops will keep you toasty warm as you browse.
